Anxiety associated with a dental procedure is very common. Sometimes this anxiety can present an obstacle to care. IV conscious sedation is offered for patients who are receiving a surgical or lengthy procedure or for patients who have anxiety related to their care.
During IV sedation, sometimes referred to as twilight sedation or twilight sleep, medications are administered slowly to provide a tailored dose to each patient. Most patients sleep throughout the procedure and have no memory of it.
Not every patient is an appropriate candidate for IV sedation in the office. Patients requiring additional anesthesia can be seen in a hospital setting.
