OK. So you may or may not have noticed that I haven’t written a new blog in a while. Can you really blame me? Let’s face it, you guys saw what happened to the topics in the ‘ol blog de jour. If I blogged about it, almost certainly, something untoward would happen to the thing I blogged about. Though the world dodged a bullet following my Santa Claus post, I was almost on par with the Sports Illustrated and Madden cover jinxes. It didn’t even help matters when I wrote a blog about jinxes. So, I understandably became a little gun shy. The most glaring example is Smoltz…I’m still licking my wounds from this one. In order, after I blogged about him…he’s hurt….he’s gone…he’s on the verge of signing with the Mets. Are you kidding me? Other obvious examples are: the Braves in general, the economy, the Dawgs, the weather, Brady (he bit someone the other day…in a loving way of course) and God help us….If I could only take back that blog I did about Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, Brittany Murphy, Billy Mays and New Jersey…..
Alas, 2010 arrives and I am rejuvenated. Though I don’t know the right way to pronounce our new year (twenty-ten or two thousand and ten). Moreover, I lament that I did not utilize the word “ought” as much as I could have at any point when referring to the nine years that preceded this one (ie twenty ought nine) and will have to make up for it by referencing those years in a raspy voice as I colorfully recount tales of days gone by to enrapt young whipper snappers….speaking of that, have you ever noticed how when young actors play old people in movies they try to make their voices unnecessarily raspy, but you don’t really meet many older people with raspy voices…softer maybe, but not raspy….case in point: Emilio Estevez in Young Guns 2, in which he played a geriatric version of Billy the Kid. Now this part of his performance(the codger part) was bad for a number of reasons (his performance as young William Bonney was of course beyond reproach) like the make up and his physicality, but the “oldy” voice was the worst and he narrated the movie for goodness sakes….but we’re getting way too far off track….where was I?
….Oh yes two ought ten, a new year, a new decade(depending on how you divide your decades), a new start, and as we learned in the 80’s, it’s the year we made contact. Great new things are happening in the office. We finished the remodel on the consultation room….I always hated the table that we had in there. It was just too big….and January marked Kelli and Missy’s sixteen-month and seven-month anniversaries in the office, respectively. I never formally introduced Missy in the blog, for obvious reasons, but since she’s been here for six months, those of you on regular recall (and you know who you are…pat yourselves on the back) have already met her and know how awesome she is. I feel very fortunate to work with the fine dental professionals in our office. They are as good a team as there is and I hope that each of you feel that when you come in. They are one of the many reasons I am excited about this year.
In the spirit of making the most of the new year, and to defy the Wii Fit’s supposition that my fitness age is twenty years greater than my chronological age, I finally took advantage of St. Mary’s Wellness Center this week. Like any good New Years Revolutionary, I suited up in crisp new work out attire and tried to conceal my profound distress while completing an assessment workout in front of one of the capable instructors at the Wellness Center. I don’t necessarily think you would have needed the Mentalist to read me on that though. In fact, I’m pretty sure Helen Keller could have picked up on my strain. Nevertheless, I fully intend to reclaim my abdomen from the alien like parasite that has come to reside there these last few months.
It has made me wonder though about the term fat and happy. I don’t know that I’ve ever been so happy in my adult life as I have these last six months. That’s the same time I started really gestating this baby. I’ll keep you posted on my happiness to fattiness ratio. We’ll call it the Jolly Quotient.
Finally, since I’m trying to be rational and reject the idea that the blog is some sort of Pandora’s box (not an Avatar reference), you’ll be seeing new ones on a more regular basis. You can also check in for periodic changes and updates (more frequently) to the site this year. New before and after case pictures, more helpful info on procedures and aftercare, and even seasonal graphics(unfortunately the only snow in Athens this year has been at the top of our homepage) will be popping up.
So….we’re all looking forward to a great year and I hope you guys are too. See you chairside.
I just wanted to pop in and say how enjoyable this was. I am about to become a patient, 1st appt. March 24, and reading this makes the decision to finally haul my baddies on in that much easier. Looking forward(!?) to being "chairside". Until then.
Carl...looking forward to seeing you too!
So, keeping up the blog are we? It's April! I want another one before my child is born in June! :)
I knew you were hilarious and super nice in person, but even your writing is witty! You have to update us on the fitness route. Thanks for the great work. My family appreciates you!
